چکیده

Aim: The study evaluates the phytochemical screening, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and antibacterial activities of aqueous methanolic extracts turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizome against Escherichia coli (E. coli) Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus).
Place Duration Study: was carried out for six months in 2020 Biochemistry
Laboratory, Department Chemical Sciences, College Basic Lagos State University Science Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, State, Nigeria.
Methodology: GC-MS AAS were determined using standard methods. Antibacterial evaluated by disc diffusion agar well minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) bactericidal concentration (MBC) procedures. Results: showed presence phytochemicals like tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, reducing sugar saponin. Mineral composition analysis shows that plant contains Na, Ca, Mg, K Fe. Nineteen compounds identified with a R-Turmerone being most abundant peak area 50.05%. results revealed at 250 500 mg/mL both root extract C. longa sensitive to organism, zone inhibition 22.29±2.35, 29.56±2.23, 21.79±1.04 29.95±1.83 E. 22.31±1.59, 28.67±1.42, 22.96±0.96 30.13±1.94mm S. respectively. Novel polymorphic microsatellite markers from turmeric, Curcuma longa L. (Zingiberaceae)

Twenty one polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized from turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). These markers were screened across thirty accessions. The number of alleles observed for each locus ranged from two to eight with an average of 4.7 alleles per locus. The discrimination power of these markers ranged from 0.25 to 0.67 (average 0.6). The simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker...
